What Are Wifi Hotspots

A virtual router is a software-based system that does everything your hardware router can do (and some things it can’t). A virtual router like Connectify Hotspot can broadcast WiFi right from your PC, so that any other WiFi-enabled device can get online. Connectify Hotspot is far and away the world’s most popular virtual router, because it’s designed with you in mind.

No Hardware Necessary

There’s no reason to carry around a bulky travel router to stay connected on-the-road or at job sites. With just your PC’s internal Wi-Fi card and Connectify Hotspot software, you’ve got a fully-featured router right inside your Windows PC. Turn your laptop into a WiFi hotspot and get iPads, smartphones, and other mobile devices online with just a few clicks. The best part is, just like your home router, the Connectify Hotspot virtual router is protected by secure WPA2 encryption.

Stay Connected on All Your Devices

Say you’re stuck in a hotel room with just a wired Ethernet connection and have no way of getting your WiFi devices online. Connectify Hotspot’s virtual router lets you broadcast that wired connection as WiFi from right inside your computer. What if you’re trying to get that Ethernet-only game console onto your 4G Hotspot? Our powerful virtual router can do that too, sharing your computer’s mobile Internet over an Ethernet cable to get all your devices online.

Share Internet and Much More

Connectify Hotspot does a whole lot more than your average virtual router. Not only can you share Internet with all your devices, but Hotspot even lets you share files with iPads, Kindles, and any other devices connected to your Hotspot. Want more? Our virtual router gives you an at-a-glance view of what devices are currently connected, and even offers firewall permissions to control which devices can access the Internet and your Local Area Network, too.

You will no longer be automatically connected to open hotspots that Windows suggests because the service is no longer available.

On Windows 10 version 1709 or earlier, the Connect to suggested open hotspots setting will still appear in Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi on your Windows 10 PC, and in Settings > Network & wireless > Wi-Fi > Additional settings on your Windows 10 phone. When the setting is turned on, you’ll still be connected to suggested open hotspots that you’ve connected to before. However, you won’t be connected to new suggested open hotspots automatically regardless of what it’s set to.

Open Wi-Fi networks will still appear in the list of available networks, and you can still connect to them on your own. However, because an open Wi-Fi network doesn't require a password to connect, anyone can connect to it. Other people might see info you send over the network. Be careful when doing things online that require personal or sensitive information, or wait until you can connect to a secured network that you trust before doing these things.
